The Jersey Village High School Addition and Renovation project for Cypress-Fairbanks ISD is Bay’s most successful complex renovation project to date. The main goal of the project was to take a 1972 era high school and complete major renovation and additions to bring the campus facilities up to the current TEA standards, including the new 4 X 4 science and math, and convert the campus to a small learning community instructional model with 4 houses of approximately 800 students in each house. The houses were required to have their own identity and administration and were to house students from 9th thru the 12th grades so that students stayed in their house family for their entire high school career. Another key element of the design was the ability for the campus to easily convert back to a departmental instructional model in the future with minimal physical modifications necessary. With a current student population of over 3000 students, this project’s construction was phased over 42 months involving three major phases with two minor phases within each of the three major phases. Twenty-eight portables equaling 56 classrooms were staged on site for a transitional academic village to allow approximately one third of the academic areas of the school to be under renovation at each of the major phases, with specialty space renovations occurring during the three summers during the construction timeline. This project is a small learning community concept design and was the first major project in Bay’s office to be documented with Building Information Modeling utilizing AutoDesk Revit. The new Jersey Village High School is a new cornerstone for the City of Jersey Village and the surrounding community, the staff and the community are excited that the new facility has turned out to be more than they had imagined.
