The school districts’ administration and architects’ careful attention to phasing coordination and priortization of system replacement ultimately achieved this projects low cost. Critical items such as an updated kitchen, replacement of glazing and curtain walls and a modernized science wing were given priority before the key additions began. Because the original facility was completed in the early 1970's, fourteen air handlers, two chillers and two cooling towers were replaced over the first summer.
The need for an identifiable entrance into the facility required the addition of a new entry and a new administration area. The design of the new gymnasium recalls the front entry design, while the location was strategically placed near the existing locker rooms in the adjoining campus, thus allowing the old practice gym to be converted into a new band hall and drill team area. The new administration area allows for visual control and security monitoring of the new main entrance and an attendance monitoring office.
