Galveston County Jail

[129a] [129b]

Client: Galveston County
Construction Cost: $44,120,000
Services: Planning, Design, Construction Administration

In 1997, Galveston County commissioned Bay Architects to develop a long-range facilities master plan. After a year of carefully reviewing the existing overcrowded courthouse, aging HVAC systems and outdated building codes, a facility assessment and master plan was presented to the County.

A new judicial facility and jail make up the major components of the Galveston County Justice Center. Together, these comprise a 560,000 s.f. project. The judicial portion will house the necessary court functions and departments, including courtrooms, jury assembly, and district attorney's offices. The jail facility will initially include 1,171 beds and can be easily expanded to 2,400 beds in the future.
