Firm Profile
"A bay is the space expressed between two columns. It is spatial possibilities created by structure." - Calvin Powitzky, Founding Principal
Since its beginning in 1995, Bay Architects has maintained a reputation for quality work, committed employees and dependability in the educational architecture arena.
Bay Architects was founded by Calvin E. Powitzky and Mark R. French to provide a unique blend of expertise in architectural services. The firm's diversified staff consisting of 4 principals, 5 associates and over 65 experienced professionals assures us that our clients needs will be met.
Our staff has been responsible for multiple TSA/TASA/TASB Awards for Architectural Excellence in Design. Bay Architects has completed an array of projects consisting of additions, renovations, new schools, higher education, worship facilities and mid-rise office buildings. We believe the lasting contributions we make to our clients are designing facilities that not only meet budgets, schedules, functional programs and energy conservation requirements, but that also enhance and stimulate the learning and work environment.

Master Planning
Large campuses such as universities, community colleges and high schools require careful, strategic planning to maximize site usage and future expansion.
Many of our school sites today are planned for multiple campuses that must be designed within a master plan context. Many districts must project future growth in order to understand its implications on district facilities. Bay's method of district-wide planning involves the community and the educators in exploration workshops to develop growth strategies which will best respond to existing school capacities, new grade alignments and possible new facilities; all balanced to meet expected growth projections for five and ten year periods.
Facility Audits
In order to understand the full range of facility needs, a district will need a facility audit. This is a thorough visual assessment of site, architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical, and roofing systems that will identify all system-level deferred maintenance and repair deficiencies needing correction. This evaluation will also identify systems components in need of replacement based on life cycle or component renewal needs. All component items identified will be listed in a computerized database including categories, establishment of priority, estimated costs, deficiency location and corrective action description.
